Equilibration

Tooth equilibration is a little-known, but incredibly effective way to treat bruxism (teeth grinding) and facial muscle pain. It is a procedure that adjusts the way in which your top and bottom jaw meet. After the adjustment, your jaws will rest in a more natural position, instead of being misaligned.

The correction of the jaw alleviates jaw pain and can prevent grinding. It is also often the initial treatment in a veneer procedure, to prevent veneers from cracking due to excessive force.

It is a non-invasive, painless and fast treatment for a problem that can cause a multitude of other health problems, including migraines and neck issues.

What Happens During an Equilibration Procedure?

The first step in an equilibration process involves a jaw alignment assessment. During the evaluation, we will also investigate the condition of your teeth.

The next step will involve a reshaping of the biting surfaces in the upper and lower joints. To do this, we use dental tools to grind different areas of the teeth and create inclines that will change your bite. As no nerves or areas of sensitivity will be touched, you will feel no pain.

The entire process will take just one appointment, and following the procedure, you’ll enjoy a far more comfortable and natural jaw alignment and bite.
